Paul Wadsworth

Carnival

10th May-14th June 2008

Paul’s latest collection of paintings have emerged from his travels in the Middle East.  These paintings represent a project that he has been returning to again and again during the past two years: an experiment in both texture and colour.  A fascinating landscape built from human desires, fears, thoughts and prayers. This is an irreverent, controversial and entertaining show: a carnival in paint, which explodes in a riot of colour and objects, linking the transforming power of carnival to the overturning of authority. Alongside the fifty or more paintings Paul will be showing a collection of mock altars, which have been constructed from abandoned objects found whilst working on location.  Visitors to the gallery are invited to place a photo, a poem or maybe a prayer in one of the altars; these can be collected at the end of the show.
